Dear Readers,
We are delighted to present the final issue of Bezmialem Science for 2026 to our esteemed readers. The ever-evolving nature of the health sciences necessitates the sharing of new research findings with the scientific community, as well as the re-evaluation of existing knowledge in light of contemporary approaches. With this perspective, our journal has continued throughout the year to introduce original, high-quality, and innovative studies from various disciplines within the health sciences to the scientific community, while fostering scholarly interaction among researchers and contributing to the advancement of academic literature. Inspired by the deep-rooted foundation tradition of Bezmialem Vakıf University, we consider it a core tenet of our publishing philosophy to integrate scientific output with a human-centered approach and to support the potential of research to enhance healthcare services.
The cover image for this issue is drawn from the study titled “Evaluation of the Prevalence of Mandibular Canal Variations Using Cone-beam Computed Tomography,” authored by Alagöz E, Karaçay N, Gürsoy N, and Sarıca İ. In this study, which examines the prevalence and distribution of mandibular canal variations using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images, 794 hemimandibular scans from 426 patients were analyzed to investigate the relationships between these variations and factors such as age, gender, edentulism, and side.
The findings reveal that mandibular canal variations are quite common, with the retromolar canal being the most frequently observed variation. Furthermore, the study identifies a significant association between these variations and both age and edentulous status. The study highlights the importance of a detailed assessment of mandibular canal anatomy using CBCT prior to invasive dental procedures—such as implant placement and third molar surgery—in order to prevent potential neurovascular injuries and surgical complications.

In today’s world, scientific progress gains meaning not merely through the generation of new knowledge, but through the critical evaluation of such information, its exchange across diverse disciplines, and its translation into practice. Furthermore, the quality of scientific publishing is fundamentally defined by the reliability of research, the rigor of the peer-review process, and the contribution that the generated knowledge makes to the scientific community. In this spirit, Bezmialem Science remains committed to providing a platform for research conducted in accordance with scientific methods and ethical principles, and to integrating scholarly contributions from various fields of expertise. We continue to work steadfastly toward enhancing our journal’s academic standards and strengthening its scientific visibility—both nationally and internationally.
As we reach the final issue of the year, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the authors who have contributed to the scientific development of our journal, as well as to our editors and reviewers, who have carried out the evaluation process with such diligence. The sustainability of scientific publishing is made possible through the collective effort and dedication of all stakeholders, each assuming their respective responsibilities. I believe that every valuable contribution made throughout this process plays a significant role in maintaining and enhancing the publication quality of our journal. Furthermore, I would like to thank all our readers—those who follow our journal, benefit from the published research, and support the advancement of the academic community through their own contributions to scientific knowledge.
As we look toward the year 2027, our goal is for Bezmialem Science to continue contributing to the field of health sciences by upholding a publishing philosophy rooted in scientific rigor, ethical standards, and interdisciplinary engagement. I hope the new year brings our researchers fruitful collaborations, original ideas, and high-quality scientific work; I wish all our readers a healthy, successful, and productive year ahead.
